Didn't we build the arena for all the citizens of Corpus Christi? Apparently not!

af2 team pathetic copy cats

Hmpf Toldyouso - 09:51pm Dec 13, 2006 Central

I heard a rumor that they're gonna call the new af2 team here in Corpus Christi the "sharks". Either they have NO imaginations; are pathetically copycatting off the Hammerheads; or this is a sleazy marketing idea, hoping that the uninformed with believe this team might still have an association with the Hammerheads and will buy tickets from them anyway. Either way it shows that their statement is loud and clear, they mean to steal the territory and capitalize on all the hard work that the Dittman family has done building the IFL out of thin air. Another hardworking LOCAL family business pushed aside with the overwhelming help of Mark Scott and the rest on the city council, via SMG management and the sleazy Marc Solis. SMG and Marc Solis have ousted the Hammerheads, The Shriners Circus, tradeshows and other groups who had been regular PAYING customers of the Coliseum and refused to help accomodate the Kiwanis Golden Gloves and other non-profit groups that couldn't afford his rates. He won't even give you the time of day if he knows you don't have money. It makes you wonder why we had the Center built because it certainly wasn't for the people of Corpus Christi.

When SMG has made all the money they can off of our city and the ABCenter is run down like the coliseum became they will skip off into the sunset laughing at us.

Thank god for the good sensible, customer friendly arena in Robstown. At the rate LOCALLY run events are moving over there I bet the possibility of them getting the Ice Rayz and the A&M sports programs should be pretty strong. Support the new Robstown arena and all their LOCAL events. Remember when you buy a ticket from the real Corpus Christi Hammerheads that money stays HERE in our local economy, the players and employees and the owners all live HERE. The money made here stays here! Support Golden Gloves in Robstown this February!

Shame on Mark Scott, dog poo on Marc Solis! Only national acts and entities matter to them. Money t

Joe A Ortiz (National Civil Rights Director, American GI Forum) Writes Letter to the Caller Times (and it got published)

Should step down

We know that Del Mar College President Carlos Garcia is responsible to the Board of Regents. However, President Garcia should be more responsible to the public. His actions are compromising education at Del Mar.

Del Mar President Garcia should relinquish his position until the present investigation is completed.

The board is doing a disservice to the public by keeping Del Mar President Garcia as president while there is a cloud of suspicion and his integrity is being questioned and investigated.

Feel the BYTE

EB: I'm not sure what it is Jaime does for a living either, bass.

JK: The discussion was not about
"what it is Jaime does for a living". It began as a dialogue about some unique skills. Why would I reveal to you how I make my livelihood so you can sabotage it?

EB. but I DO know he tries to pimp himself out to candidates running for public office.

How do you
"know" this EB? You offer not one shred of proof. Then you act as if these Politicians are being victimized by me. My agenda is to engage the voters, publish irrefutable documentation and they decide. It might not be as I want or as you want but as WE as a whole community choose. Give me one instance where the Candidate did not approach initially.

EB:.even if they don't live in his district.

JK: Christen Archer does not live in the District either nor does Montgomery so WATT?

EB:.and if a candidate passes on hiring him, then he goes into full on attack mode, and will try to destroy the candidate's reputation and blame him for everything from global warming to the common cold.

JK: Again, you are incorrect EB. I don't believe Global Warming or common cold are accurate as they have never been a style of words I would use. More like Reneging, Lying & Cheating. EB, you must go by the person's actions and when a man is not worth his handshake (meaning he shakes hands and gives you his word and reneges) and he proves it to me personally I will speak up, I have not a qualm about going into full attack mode. Candidate's Reputation? Yeah, thats kinda like destroying the reputation of Heidi Fleiss or Marion Berry.

EB: He'll TELL you he has no agenda,

JK: Where have i ever said "I have no agenda".

I seldom use the word although the students use the term all day long.

EB: but anybody who reads his rantings

JK: Why do you read my "rantings" EB?

EB: can tell he does, and 99% of the time, that agenda involves Jaime trying to get paid by somebody.

JK: Do you work for free?

EB: His volumnous rants against the Fernandezes?..he claims they owe him money.

JK: It is Fernandez' EB. The Fernandez' are in arrears and their case is screwed because they want to hide the other heirs. Maybe you are one to let it go, not me. One day they will be compelled to keep their agreements. Those I have the documentation and not just a handshake.

EB: His continued attacks on Juan Garcia?

JK: Hey if one of you
Juant to brown nose him and open the door.........?

EB: ..he claims Garcia "hired" him to work in his campaign..then reneged.

JK: He did? Not only did I make a claim, I am contemplating dragging it all in to small claims court and dare you and everyone else to defend him. Why would you continue to defend a Politician / Lawyer. Now you are really reaching out there EB. Desperation so as to win?

EB: His attacks on Del Mar College?..his brother's girlfriend is suing the college, and Jaime's hoping to get HIS piece of the action by slamming the college.I guess he figures that by continuously attacking DMC,he's "helping" her case, and is therefore entitled to a sizable chunk of change from any settlement she might get.

JK: Now here is a prime example of Libel. The statement is absolutely false. Please make a note of the IP for exhibit. This will be emailed to Mike Westergren and Robert Heil as both are very aware of the victim (non litigant) you just Libeled. All in due time my friend.

EB: Mary Cano?..he accuses her of "modifying" his "JOB opportunities" (whatever the hell THAT'S supposed to mean).

JK: This is true, Mary Cano did modify my JOB Opportunities per Havlinka v Schubert.

EB: Don't get me wrong..I'm not trying to pile on here,Jaime,

JK: Dude, if you even knew who you are siding with. Pile on EB, nah you would never do anything like that especially if you knew it was helping me. Continue, pile on I can take it.

EB: but other people are seeing what I've seen for the last year or so..that you're not nearly as "objective" as you claim to be,and that,if you look deep enough, there's almost always some financial angle to to whoever or whatever it is you're accusing of some konspiracy on any given day.

JK: That is your opinion and that is quite a sophisticated view you have of me. However, I must request you acknowledge the credibility now of what was once a Konspiracy theory. Del Mar Housekeeping, The President, CIA, and Swiss Bankers Hunting on the Armstrong Ranch, Keeping the Powder Dry, A Sham in Nueces County, KFATSO. Why do you read such rantings EB? Because you have wisdom beyond your years, that is why you read WATT I write EB.

EB: I,personally, don't care who you're trying to wheedle money out of by posting the stuff you do.Having read most,if not all of it,my guess is you won't be paid by anybody anytime soon, but it seems other people are starting to catch on to what you're doing and what you're really about, which means your motives for posting some of the crap you do are going to be called into question more often now.

JK: If this is true then, that means these "other people" are starting to Feel the BYTE.

I am glad you mentioned these things EB
Posted on December 10, 2006 at 05:29:52 AM by Kenedeno

EB: "Did you or did you not post a few months back that you were dragged into Judge JAG's court over a truancy issue involving one of your kids?"

JK: Yes, I did. When a parent takes his child to school and he arrives on time (he becomes a student under the Jurisdiction of the school administration); the child is in the custody of the school. While the child is on school grounds he is subject to the rules of the school as the school is subject to the custodial responsibility. Anything that happens during the day is under the school's watch. If the student is absent during the middle of the day who's watch is it under? If the child is tardy or walking the halls; who's watch is it? However, when the student is tardy or skipping during the middle periods, the school admin, the attendance clerk and the truancy officer engage themselves. They begin the documentation of the "truant events". There is a computer that will call to inform the household that the "student was absent one or more periods today". Keep in mind the automated system is readily discounted by the administration when they cannot find the reason it called. That is when the parent contacts the school to inquire to specifically which class was the child absent or tardy, why was the machine reporting the child absent? Now all of this said kids roaming the halls, tardy and absent is being allowed by who? Who's custody did the parents release the child into? But, once the truant events add up as they are allowed; the child and the parents are charged with truancy and adult contributing to truancy respectively. That means for the child an automatic slam dunk $500 ching ching, the parent slam dunked and another $500 ching ching and then the other parent $500 ching ching. Now tell me how that is right and just EB? I have every right and every reason to write about this injustice. And you are correct I do have an angle it is called EQUAL JUSTICE for all.

EB: "You see,Jaime..I make it a point to remember these things because it helps me put your rantings on certain things in their proper context."

JK: You remember so you can take them out of context and twist for your anti Jaime angle. Hell EB I could say the temp is below 90 degrees outside right now and you would find a way to argue about it.

EB: "For instance:

Your rantings on "deadbeat MEs who cover up crimes"...stem from the fact that you think the Fernandezes owe you money..oh..and land, too."

JK: If he wants to cover up facts or other heirs would that not open the door to covering up or manipulating evidence? Now, I can provide a little more indight if you follow the link address.

"Marie Fernandez that showed up to my office one Friday and tried to bribe me with another family member by stated the cause of death could be changed."

http://corpuschristicallertimes.blogspot.com/2006/12/marie-fernandez-that-showed-up-to-my.html

EB: "Your rantings on Del Mar..stem from something you allege happened to some chick your brother USED to date..(and probably from the fact that you USED to be a student there, and now you're not, which would lead any thinking person to wonder whether you have some personal axe to grind). It's funny how you pretend to be morally outraged at "sexual harassment" at Del Mar,yet you supported a slug for Sheriff whose campaign manager and potential Chief Deputy is a serial womanizer and documented sexual abuser..and you knew it but supported him anyway."

JK: The "chick" (1 of over many victims who cam forward) is my brother's significant other. My involvement in this fight has everything to do with the community. There is a construction vested interest coupled with the self dealing shell game which is leveraged by others like Carlos Garcia who loves tits and ass. I have not one hesitation to refer to Mike Westergren , Joe Alaniz, Carlos Garcia and the like as corrupt along with police reports, written testimony and documents displaying them for the worms they truly are. With Pete Alvarez there is no certainty the womanizer would have become part of the Sheriffs Dept. You can make the arguement all day long. But if he would have moved with Pete would not these inappropriate actions be enough to deny him the position if the public spoke up? Why dont you show us some documents on the "sexual abuse" EB?

EB: "Your attempted character assassination of Juan Garcia..you claimed he couldn't be trusted, that he had no ethics or morals..yet you tried to sell your "services" to his campaign. It was only AFTER he told you and "Team Kenedeno" to take a hike, that you began attacking him.Which..again,would lead any thinking person to wonder..if he'd have hired you, would you STILL have dogged him in these forums?..I'll bet you wouldn't have..in fact..I'll even bet you you'd hve been busily posting reams of crap telling us what a wonderful guy he is".

JK: I will keep this simple. Juan shook my hand, asked me to start working (writing) and bring the public into this race. He said he had very little money at the time to pay for my services but if we could bring the public into the HD #32 RACE the money would come in from the big donors. I told him I would challenge Mikal to kick in some dinero and I would get the money coming in. Juan also claimed he wanted a debate with Seaman but he said it would take an act of god. I assured him I would get Seaman to debate him. Juan was scared to debate Seaman. He got his ass kicked at every joust. Juan never told us to take a hike, he kept on saying tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and then was too much of a puss to answer the phone and tell me to take a hike or whatever; he is ashamed and he cannot look me in the eyes (and I have been in his presence) because he knows he lied and hid like a coward. And you brought him up so don’t go there with the I cant let it go bs.

EB: “You're like the wizard from the "Wizard of Oz",Jaime..you PROJECT an image of bluster and fire and claim to have knowledge of all these various community goings on..but when you look behind the bluster and ignore the rhetoric for amoment and you pull the curtain back..there's a little guy behind it trying furiously to spin something into something it's not.”

JK: What is wrong with the Wizard of OZ? He got the people to have confidence in themselves. He enabled the Lion to find his courage. He enabled the scarecrow to find his intelligence etc etc etc……

Marie Fernandez that showed up to my office one Friday and tried to bribe me with another family member by stated the cause of death could be changed.

NOTHING, NOTHING ever happened because Ray Fernandez had now become more interested in a dear friend of my fathers, that worked with Elena Suess Kenedy. Posted on September 22, 2005 at 02:22:50 PM by Estevan

I have to agree with Jaime. I met several times with Ray Fernandez at his office. I was working on the Ruben Vela murder case and made an appt to see him and go over my investigation. The official cause of death was ruled an ACCIDENT. I discovered many loose ends that required the reopening of the case and view it as an ASSAULT which led to murder when Ruben died 5 days later. Dr. Fernandez agreed that I had enough new evidence to talk to the texas ranger that investigated originally plus I told him of a video tape that the asst fire chief of bishop had taken of the entire rescue event. He was not aware of it, as the ranger did not even look into this case enough to know the video was there. Dr. Fernandez stated to me that with the skull fracture that Ruben had he would have been immediately paralyzed and therefore would not have been able to ride his bike 7 blocks after he was assaulted at the hay barn (which burned down that nite!) and valiantly tried to ride his bike back home. I told him of the video and that MAria Vela, rubens mom, had told me Ruben had his hands up to his head when she arrived. The video would prove that ruben was not papralyzed and therefore any conclusion the coroner came to was not correct. It was not an accidental death, it was premeditated. NOTHING, NOTHING ever happened becasue Ray Fernandez had now become more interested in a dear friend of my fathers, that worked with elena. He wanted me to get enough info from the old guy to help himself. He now seemed to play a game of give me info and I''ll help you!! I did not give my father''s friend to him and consequently never got a damn thing done to help the Vela family and bring out the truth. WHY?? Then there is Marie Fernandez that showed up to my office one Friday
Then there is Marie Fernandez that showed up to my office one Friday and tried to bribe me with another family member by stated the cause of death could be changed. After this meeting with her, strange and ultimately lost my job because of her. She started telling the lie that I had slept with her. It is alledged she would do it in front of her husband, my chances for the vela case now get out of reach for me. Too many minds poisoned and untrusting due to her lies. Yes, I agree with Jaime.

The Caller-Times refuses to investigate and do any in depth reporting of Del Mar College

In response to Nick Jimenez Viewpoints, Look down-ballot for the nitty-gritty stuff.

I am a candidate for DMC Regents District 5. Several weeks ago I sat with the Caller-Times Editorial Board and described problems facing the college as presented in the Rangel Report; problems with accreditation based on the failure to follow and enforce DMC Policy; issues of sexual harassment, the firing of the female EEOC officer, the expulsion of the female student she tried to help and the abuse of power by the college president and the regents. Recently, I have learned of questions concerning the Baker-Botts report and the Waters Study which the college is refusing to release to those who have filed Freedom of Information requests. These reports cost the taxpayers a great deal of money. None of these stories have been covered in the Caller-Times accept if at all superficially. If you read the newspaper all you get is the gospel as paid for by the DMC public relations department and as promoted by Nick Jimenez and his cronies. Nick Jimenez is 100% correct that “there are more associate degrees and more certificates from Del Mar College hanging on more walls in Corpus Christi than diplomas from any other institution of higher learning.” What that does in the eyes of the Caller-Times is buy the College, corrupt and incompetent regents and administrators, a free pass to deny students and employees their rights to due process and rip off the taxpayers of Corpus Christi. The Caller-Times refuses to investigate and do any in depth reporting of Del Mar College, unless it’s a fluff piece. The Caller-Times has done nothing since September, to cover the candidates for regents and the issues I have addressed. How about spending a week or two in the weeks prior to the election to do some in depth reporting on the goings on behind the scenes at Del Mar College and the position papers of those who are candidates for the Board? Nick Jimenez, you hypocrite, how can you state, “That surely merits more than the bottom of the ballot, or at least being sure that every voter devotes a thoughtful decision to those elections,” when you and the Caller-Times bury the stories and endorse the status quo candidates to cover up for the abuses and corruption of your hometown team? Or maybe I misunderstood. It’s not the voters who should do the thinking? How could they without the information? It’s your thoughts you want them to use to make that decision. I get it now.

Is this the guy Penny complained to about the emails

Juvenile shakeup is coming

Board seeks resignation; official intends to remain

By barbara ramirez Caller Times
October 20, 2006

A meeting scheduled for Nov. 1 could mean a restructuring of top management at the Nueces County Juvenile Probation Department, which has remained unchanged for at least a decade.

The Nueces County Juvenile Board this week asked Chief Probation Officer Steven Schwerin, who has led the facility for 10 years, to resign his position in light of an independent consultant's unfavorable evaluation of his office and leadership.

Schwerin said Thursday he has no intention of resigning.

"The staff and supervisors of our department are passionate about what we do," Schwerin said. "The report is far from objective; it doesn't reflect the accomplishments of our department."

The report, released Oct. 9, said the members of management at the juvenile department did not have a good working relationship under Schwerin. It went on to say Schwerin had not had a management team meeting since March, he was indecisive and inconsistent, and his office suffered from low morale.

Specifically mentioning Schwerin and assistant Joe Alley, the report said administrators don't work well together and suggested replacing Alley and another assistant and terminating or buying out Schwerin's contract.

"It seems that at no time during his tenure was there a close-knit, effectively interacting administrative team," Michael Lindsey of Nestor Consultants said in the report.

Alley, who wrote a retirement letter to the Juvenile Board, partially because of the report, said the report accurately depicts the department's atmosphere during the past 10 years. Alley planned to retire at the end of December, but said the report prompted him to retire early. His last day is Dec. 1.

"The last 10 years at the Juvenile Department have been difficult and disappointing, however I'm excited to see the board is taking steps to improve the department," Alley, who has been with the department 34 years, wrote in the letter to the board.

At the Nov. 1 meeting, the Juvenile Board will hear from Schwerin on his plans, then decide what action to take, according to 214th District Judge Jose Longoria.

Larry ? Lloyd: Nueces County Constitutional Judge Race

Nueces county judge race, - what a joke!

Kyle Lovett - 07:08am Sep 14, 2006 Central

What's this? Larry "they-check-in-but-don't-check-out" Olivarez, and Lloyd "I-love-closed-door-insurance-deals" Neal for Nueces county judge candidates. It's laughable, but typical of what Nueces county is. The former sheriff's management record speaks for itself regarding the jail and all the lawsuits which caused the tax payer's huge amounts of money. When he first came to office, he ran off some of the best jail staff, purely for political reasons and it went downhill after that. Mr. Olivarez is s just another politico from the west side and will do more harm than good if elected, but, what's the other choice? Hah! Lloyd Neal ends up running off the best City Manager Corpus has had in decades, David Garcia, who laid the foundation for all the fine improvements CC enjoys today. This after David Garcia proceeds to expose the tawdry City insurance contractual deals between the good ole buds. Eventually it turned into a character assassination, the fact that Mr. Garcia was dating one of the City's Risk Management directors, which is none of Mr. Neal's business. Bottom line? Neal has no class, just like alot of other leaders in the community have no class....witness the Dr. Bria debacle.

Funny stuff, and is the type of tawdry politics Corpus has learned to love! Corpus gets what its deserves. What say you?

"Snide,self righteous old overlord"

Jeezus,George..

It seems now that Olivarez' new strategy is to shirk responsibility for the conditions at the jail by blaming Rodriguez and Stutts for the problems.Neal's pounding him over the issue, and rightly so,so Larry's doing what he does best..pass the buck. It's been his trademark since he was elected Sheriff.Anybody who's seen the pictures the feds took of the jail before they removed their prisoners knows problems like that don't occur in the space of a couple months, but Olivarez would have you believe they did.Rodriguez and especially Stutts, who was jail administrator under Olivarez, certainly bear part of the responsibility, but for Olivarez to try to say it's all their fault strains credulity.

Another thing..I noticed a couple days ago that the sign out in front of the jail still says "Larry Olivarez,Jr..Sheriff"..and his name is still on marked Sheriff's Dept.patrol cars, even though he resigned as Sheriff at the beginning of this year.Who pays for removing his name from the patrol cars and the jail building?..I guess the same people who paid to have them put there in the first place..us.

I've been waiting for someone from Corpus to notice the inconsistency. The problem is, his opposition is another career politician, not a reasonable candidate for "Judge." Neal has a record as bad as Olivarez, if not worse.

Corpus Christi city politics looks pretty comical from the outside...
Kyle Lovett - 08:32am Sep 17, 2006 Central (#5 of 9) Reply

Corpus politics are the laughing stock both from the inside and outside - corrupt, stupidly "politically correct", with only self serving agendas catering to one ethnicity - Hispanics. I can't think of two of the worse candidates than those two for county judge, it just stinks. BTW, ask someone who worked at the jail intake about 6 years ago about the case in which one of Olivarez's kin (believe it was a cousin) was picked up for DWI and let go. They're both as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

Good luck!

Since Corpus Christi is one of America's friendliest cities[comp. size]why not give law enforcement credit for doing something right? That would include Ex-Sherrif Olivarez, imho.
Kyle Lovett - 07:10am Sep 18, 2006 Central (#7 of 9) Reply

You're saying Sheriff Olivarez should be credited for giving out smiles? Yeah he's smiling all right, smiling if you do his bidding, and to get elected so he can grab more power. Wonder who's punching his buttons?

Tell me, during his tenure, what did the good Sheriff do that was so wonderful?

According to Forbes.com, Corpus has one of the highest crime rates in the nation (ranked 147), guess the Sheriff is to blame for that, eh? Not only does CC have one of the highest crime rates, but the lowest educational attainment and the lowest cultural attainment, (latter in spite of the one sided Hispanic cultural news stuffed down the throat by all the media outlets).

The sheriff is to blame for the deaths of let's see..... at least 8 prisoners being held under his watch? How much did those lawsuits cost you, the taxpayer? Ever wonder why Corpus taxes are some of the highest in Texas, while the infrastructure (streets, parks, water) sux?
Kyle Lovett - 07:17am Sep 18, 2006 Central (#8 of 9) Reply

BTW, if you've ever driven the streets and freeways of CC, you learn quickly that CC is not such a friendly place. Corpus has some of the meanest drivers I've ever seen. There are many folks that will deliberately drive 60 mph in the far left lane on IH 37 and aligned with driver in the center lane so you can't pass, just to be mean. Corpus friendly? Another joke.

Olivarez has been a pretty good cop and he's probably a good man, from what I can tell. Corpus Christi is a lot better off than some other places I've heard of but, being a good cop doesn't qualify him to be a Judge. A judge has to be fair-minded while cops, in general, are only concerned with catching someone doing something wrong and putting them in jail! If the Judge takes that approach, that would make him part of the PROSECUTION TEAM and mean any citizen, wrongly accused and only guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time has an uphill battle trying to PROVE he didn't do anything wrong! That's exactly what's wrong with our so-called "Justice System" these days and why I would never vote for an ex-cop to be a Judge.

Loyd Neal, on the other hand, is a professional politician. That makes his qualifications highly questionable as well.

Personally, I'd look for a retired business manager who's used to dealing with large numbers of people, like an ex-City Manager. He or she would makes a better "Judge" in my opinion...

Rolando Garza and Joe Ortiz Practiced Due Diligence on Hot Potato George Moff

Comrade John Martinez Claims to be "In The Know" with respect to former Nueces County Chief Appraiser convicted of theft of property valued between $500 and $1,500 and was accused of improper spending.

WATT about Comrade Richard Borchard & Comrade Ronnie Canales?

And one other GUY who acted in the capacity of his office?

How was the calculation of the monetary amount decreased to les than $1500?

With WATT did George Moff balance the scales of justice?

WATT about Comrade Juan Reyna?

WATT about Comrade David Jones?

Once again we have the manipulation of JOB opportunities per Hvalinka V Schubert?

We need Comrade WATTS to do the hiring for CCISD. He surely, will get us a top notch Superintendent and eliminate the competition according to the latest Polls conducted?

Avarice? Don't ya just smell it?

Anyway, back to JUDGE John Martinez; tell the public WATT really happened since you were so instrumental in the Due Process and justice rendered.

John Martinez

Age: 32

Occupation: Lawyer

Q: What is the most important lesson you have learned in your legal career?

A: It's more points that you come across that remind you of what you are doing. I was in a trial in Abilene, and we were picking a jury. One gentleman (a recent U.S. citizen) had a death in the family. When the judge asked if he wanted to be excused he said no, he wanted to be on the jury, and he got on. He said being on the jury was part of being a citizen. We take so much for granted here with the system that we have and the system that is in place.

Q: What's your take on the current jury selection system?

A: Picking a jury can be very complicated, so it is not a question of having a perfect system. I don't know that there is a better way. Although there are problems with it, I think overall it is the best way.

Q: How does your record as an attorney translate to the judiciary?

A: When I was in law school I did an internship with the district attorney's office so I got a taste of criminal law, but of course most of my experience is in the civil area. I represented the appraisal district when George Moff (former Nueces County Chief Appraiser convicted of theft of property valued between $500 and $1,500) was accused of improper spending. I also represented the county on the 30-year-old boundary dispute with San Patricio County. I'm young, but I have done some cool stuff.

The ones who may have been smarter. competition and see who is More qualified.

Community won't know if Bria is the best choice
August 1, 2006

Rochonne Bria has a doctorate degree and 13 years of experience as a superintendent. She's been named superintendent of the year in Arizona and was a finalist in Washington state. With her help and leadership, her current district boasts a lower dropout rate, increased success on state-mandated tests, passed a $100 million bond issue and achieved higher teacher retention rates. When she first started at Battle Ground School District, one board member was suing the district and teachers had a walkout over pay.

She still has managed to get things done in her eight years there.

Bria very well could be the perfect fit for Corpus Christi. But her stellar resume and skills as a mediator may do her very little good. When she arrives here today for her public debut, she'll have her work of schmoozing and swaying the community cut out for her. CCISD made sure of it.

First, she's not from Texas. She comes from a district much smaller than CCISD (Battle Ground serves almost 13,000 students. CCISD has a population of about 40,000.) She's not familiar with the area or its people. And the first time the community heard her name is when the board of trustees announced Friday she was the sole finalist to replace Jesus Chavez as superintendent.

Bria is battling for CCISD's top job with a gaggle of ghosts - the mystery candidates that no one in the community got to meet.

The ones who may have been smarter. Hispanic. More qualified.

According to state regulations, a school district is required only to give public notice of the name or names of finalists being considered for the job 21 days before the board moves to hire them.

Not a bad idea, really, but many districts now use the law to sidestep the public completely. Instead of choosing a few qualified candidates and introducing them to the community to get input (support or opposition), boards narrow the selection process to one - the one person they want to hire.

CCISD, like many districts in Texas, abused the spirit of the law by doing just that.

No one is suggesting the district bypass the law completely. Legislators passed the regulations to allow districts to narrow down the pool of qualified applicants without outside influence and so candidates could apply without fear of repercussions from their own districts.

But CCISD can be different by going against the current grain and allowing the public some choice in the matter once the short list is in hand.

Bria may have a strong grasp of curriculum and instruction. She may understand the challenges of educating various demographics and have the answer to our dropout problem.

Maybe she has bigger and better ideas than any other candidate.

But who knows?

CCISD employees study up on new curriculum
By adriana Garza Caller-Times
August 2, 2006

Hundreds of Corpus Christi Independent School District teachers, principals and administrators are spending much of this week learning the district's new curriculum at the Superintendent Leadership Conference.

During the past several months, 400 CCISD teachers and administrators spent Saturdays and most of their summer break designing the district's new instruction plan.

Interim Superintendent Scott Elliff said one of the goals of the curriculum realignment is to better prepare students for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.

"We want to provide an engaging learning experience for students in our classrooms," Elliff said.

The areas covered by the new curriculum include English, language arts, math, science and social studies.

Teachers will spend time familiarizing themselves with the new curriculum before the start of classes Aug. 14.

The realignment of the curriculum comes three years after a district-wide curriculum audit revealed areas in need of improvement.

CCISD Board President Manuel Flores said the revamping of the district's curriculum is one of the most important things the district has done in 20 years.

"This is what will lead up to where we want to be as a district," Flores said.

CCISD finalist vows to be visible at campuses
'I plan to be here for as long as you'll have me,' Bria says

By adriana garza Caller-Times
August 3, 2006

Five days after being named the sole finalist for the CCISD superintendent position, Rochonne Bria spent most of Wednesday getting to know the district.

During her first full day in Corpus Christi since the announcement was made, Bria introduced herself to several dozen school administrators and teachers and told them about her long-term plans, including becoming more visible in the district's schools.

She also emphasized her commitment to the Corpus Christi Independent School District and added that, if offered the job, this likely would be her last position as a superintendent.

"I stay in communities and I live there," said Bria, who has served as superintendent of Battle Ground Independent School District in Washington for eight years. "I plan to be here for as long as you'll have me."

She said that stability would contribute to the district's success.

She talked about her background in curriculum and instruction and said she was impressed with the district's new plan, unveiled at the Superintendent Leadership Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bria, 58, began her career 33 years ago in Mesa, Ariz., teaching sixth grade.

She also has taught special education in junior high and high schools in Arizona and worked toward writing curriculum for seventh through 12th grades.

While she is just beginning to familiarize herself with the district and its issues, Bria already knows at least one thing she wants to do if CCISD trustees vote to offer her a contract after the obligatory 21-day negotiation period.

"I want to be in the schools every day," Bria said. "I need to know each one of our schools."

Bria said she plans on allowing time every morning to meet the district's students, teachers and principals. That open line of communication is key to a district's success, she added.

CCISD Board President Manuel Flores said Bria has been well received by the community during her first visit.

"She has proven herself to be very approachable and she has shown that she is eager to learn as much about the district and the city as she can," he said.

CCISD's finalist also met with the local chapter of the American Federation of Teachers. President Juan Guerra said the union was encouraged after learning of Bria's past experience, especially with minority students.

Bria will return next week to continue her introduction to the community.

CCISD trustees voted 5-2 last week in favor of naming the Washington native as the sole finalist for the district's top job.

The search began in February, after former superintendent Jesus Chavez left the district to become the superintendent of Round Rock Independent School District.

In a final decision Ram Chavez has been expelled from the GI Forum

Today in his final appeal at the GI Forum National Conference in Kansas City, the National GI Forum Board of Directors voted to expel Ram Chavez. In doing so, this action begins the charter re-instatement of the Hector P Garcia Founding chapter and bars Mr Chavez from all GI Forum activities. GI Forum National Director of Civil Rights Joe Ortiz in confirmation from the Convention floor in Kansas City looks forward to the Founding Chapter bouncing back and working in a unified manor to restore the legacy and namesake of Dr Hector P Garcia and the building, at the corner of Morgan Avenue and Bright Street, where activists planned the strategy for the landmark 1968 case Cisneros et. al. v. CCISD, which set the stage for courtordered school integration in Corpus Christi from 1976 to 1982. The building has been under the care of the National Archives & Historical Foundation of the GI Forum, which was set up in 1978 as a fundraising arm of the larger GI Forum - which was established by Dr. Garcia.

Del Mar Dreams of perjury, forgery, attempted capital murder, and gross violations of procedural due process

This is the beginning of an information sharing / public exposure endeavor.

Introduction 9.

This case began with an incident in the offices of the Criminal Justice department at Del Mar during which an employee of Del Mar verbally abused three Hispanic students. Over the following months, that relatively minor incident mushroomed into a web of perjury, forgery, attempted capital murder, and gross violations of procedural due process. In their efforts to cover up a single violation of the civil rights of three students, the defendants began a long series of illegal actions that have caused unconscionable harm to two individuals who did nothing to harm Del Mar and who merely exercised their constitutional rights.

does this make common sense?Posted on June 1, 2006 at 00:15:31 AM by dannoynted1

Take a deep breath Cato... 5/31/2006 10:38 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Certainly things can get done the way they are now. I heard that the port could operate more efficiently if they had a way to accomodate larger ships. Supertankers wouldn't have to offload in the gulf onto other ships and have them deliver it. It would be faster if they brought it in themselves. This is only one issue for the bridge. Realistically, we won't have a say in the construction of the new bridge. Bigger people than us will make the decision regardless. In other words, I'm sure someone's pockets are going to benefit from it. I hate to say it Cato, I don't think Rock drilling will be the one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and just how could you possibly know who will benefit? is your pocket being lined? i am sure you have no "common sense" much less know anything about it when you get some then maybe you can get a "piece of the rock"

and notice neither of them deal with who will be making bucoooos of dinero. Corrosion? Not a factor for at leat another 50 years or so and that is if we stopped all maintainence. Think it will still be standing after a major hurricane? I say yes. Height?? Why height? How is it better to bring the ship all the way in than to offload away from the public. Public Safety must be a primary factor. These ships are clumsy at best. Let us not forget the Super Tanker Exxon Valdez. Bottom line is Social Status & Economic status of a select few at the expense of taxpayer money and our safety. Oh yeah, when we built cargo dock 1 it was designed for industry not parties and board rooms.Replies:

Re: Some support the harbor bridge to get rich, not for community 6/1/2006 7:21 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rock Engineering wouldn't be the only beneficiary, it would be a stimulus for the entire community. Perhaps you don't have that forward-thinking ability. Even if Rock Engineering doesn't benefit from the actual design or construction, it would still benefit our firm in the long run. Even I can see that.

How troubling that something like that would get the ax.

The guy (engineer) that built the harbor bridge led the project to built mount Rushmore. The bridge like the courthouse is a historical site.

by Major Carrales...if you didn't worry about that forum so much. A simple google search reveals that your best work is done outside that forum. Eric is going to remove your posts on principle until you "play by his rules." No matter what they be. Since he pays for that out of his own pocket I am suprise he allows the freedom of opinion he does. But that is regulated by his own whims. His current rule en re you is to appologize to him for what ever it is that is between you. That is between you and him. That is something only you and he can resolve...if you even want to do that. I don't know why he deleted the post on the bridge...other threadsters have raised the issue. As for my advise to you... strongly suggest you create a podcast or internet radio show. That is , in my opinion, you next move. Call into his show and ask him the questions. BTW, I enjoyed seeing you, dannoynted1 and meeting your brother. Thank for inviting me to that meeting, but I ould not go and needed to get back home by a certain hour. And,as you know, home is 70 miles from that point. Keep the faith and have a good one!!!

1) A movement against building a new bridge and tearing down a historical landmark residing in a historical designated area. Public Opinion can over rule imminent domain. 2)A challenge to the incumbent Gene Seaman to debate his well respected opponent Desert Storm Aviator Juan Garcia. The Agenda is clear. Where do you stand El Capitan? It just goes to demonstrate the cowardice of some and the selective nature of others when it comes to our constitution. A Sea Man or a Desert Storm Aviator We dont need your message board or KEYS Radio.
